Pembroke Pines Police Department Wear Pink!

In Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness

October 18, 2016
Over the years during Octobers’ Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Pembroke Pines Police Department have driven patrol cars with large pink ribbon decals on them. Last year the Police Department had one of its patrol cars “wrapped in pink” to promote breast cancer awareness. The Pink Patrol Car is driven to special events to show support and create greater awareness about Breast Cancer Awareness.  This year when officers drive the Pink Patrol Car it will be personal.  Pembroke Pines Police Officer Dawn Groves*, an 18-year veteran of the Department, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Since her June 4, 2015 diagnosis Groves has undergone a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, completed chemotherapy and radiation.  When not working at her job in the Training Division of the Police Department Groves is participating in events such as Relay for Life, networking at other breast cancer events and fundraising for the October Glam-a-THON breast cancer fundraiser with members of her 5-O Fighters Team. She volunteers to drive the Pembroke Pines Pink Patrol Car to events and speaks about ‘the importance of having a warrior mindset, which affects treatment and recovery’. “While mammograms and other diagnostic testing are important, self-examination is invaluable, it saved my life. Humans know their bodies. If something doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t, so go get it checked out and get a second opinion if necessary,” said Groves.
